Seborrheic Dermatitis in Infants
Seborrheic dermatitis in infants generally occurs at the age of 6 months. Not because of illness, but the condition is experienced as a result of excessive oil production in the baby's skin.
Symptoms of seborrhoeic dermatitis in infants include:
- The emergence of Cradle Cap (aka dandruff in infants) is the scales that spread, oily, and yellow or tanned in baby skin.
- Reddish rash that can spread to the armpit folds and groin, the shape is similar to diaper rash.
- Popping red patches that are easy to peel.

Seborrheic dermatitis in infants can disappear by itself when the baby enters the age of 6-12 months. But indeed, this skin disorder makes the baby's head itch, so that causes it to cry often because it is uncomfortable.
The handle is to clean the crust that appears on the baby's scalp, using a fluffy brush while bathing. Moisten with clean water, then gently brush the baby's skin that looks scaly.

Seborrheic Dermatitis in adults
Unlike in infants or children, seborrhoeic dermatitis in adults may arise due to an underlying medical condition. Several factors play a role, namely the endurance of the body that is weak or in recovery from the disease.
Seboronic Dermatitis can also occur in adults suffering from mental or nerve disorders (depression), using certain medications, and exposure to extreme weather.
Seborrheic Dermatitis in adults is accompanied by the following symptoms:
- The rash occurs on the scalp, face, and upper body.
- The rash occurs in winter and tends to improve in the summer.
- The rash feels very itchy.
- It appears a thin, scaly pink plaque on the folds of the skin on both sides of the face.
- Inflammation of the hair follicles (superficial folliculitis) on the cheeks and upper body (chest and back).
- Dandruff. This is one form of seborrheic dermatitis that has not been inflamed.
Seborrheic Dermatitis in adults can be solved by bathing regularly using soap and shampoo.
About shampoo, use an anti-dandruff shampoo. This is because this type of shampoo contains salicylic acid and sulfur which can overcome the problem of the dry and crusty scalp.
Also, the sufferer is advised not to scratch the body that has seborrheic dermatitis. The reason, the scratch, let alone to excessive, can precisely worsen the complaint.
